Hello and Welcome to "Soap Suds!!!" I am Vickie Lusk, mother to a herd of American Alpines and maker of Natures Creations Goat Milk Soap in Michigan .We make many varities of soap to choose from, all from 100% goat milk, and I am looking forward to sharing the joys of soap making with you!
I am not a professional writer, and I am sure that there are a lot of you that have been making your own soap a lot longer than I have! But, I look forward to teaching those of you that have thought about making your own soap and just didn't know how to get started .
This month, before we even discuss the acutal soap making process, we need to talk about SAFETY!
You need a well ventilated area to work in. Also, a old long sleeve shirt and pair of rubber gloves. And, lets not forget the most important item, a pair of goggles !
Why? Because you will be working with lye and Lye, if not handled properly, can be a dangerous chemical that can burn your skin! So, all precautions should be taken to avoid any accidental burn..
If a splash of lye does find its way onto your skin, immediately wash area with soap and water and rinse with vinegar. The first sign of a lye burn is usually itching. By wearing long sleeves, rubber gloves and protective eye wear. you can help to prevent this from happening...
Next month we will talk about proper equipment needed to make lye..
