Brag Book for

Show Award

 

 

A great award to give at any show for Grand Champion is a Breed colored photo album to use as either a Brag Book or to carry the breeder's registrations papers in. It is easy to make and the breeders love them, especially when you co-ordinate the cover fabric with the ribbon colors for that breed., i.e, purple and white for Saanen, Red and Black for LaMancha, etc.

Ask your club members for any old 3 ring binders that they have. It can be 1-3" binder. Fabric rements are plentiful at the fabric stores and you can use a silk, or a cotton fabric., depending on how fancy you want to be.

Use the batting to cover the entire album. Glue it into place remembering to go only to the edge. Also close your book while gluing into place. This will prevent the album from not being able to close.

 

Next lay your album on top of the fabric. Begin to cut the fabric, leaving at least 1 inch of fabric on all sides.

 

Glue the fabric to the inside of the album. Trim down the fabric if it becomes too bulky.

 

Cut the piece of cardboard to fit the inside cover and the back cover. You want these pieces to be smaller so that you can cover up the other fabric edges.

 

Cover the cardboard with fabric.

 

Glue the cardboard pieces into place on the both inside covers.

 

Now take a heavy peice of cardboard and cut out either a square or heat shape, cutting out the center . You want to have a large enough opening so that a photo snapshot will be easily visable . Cover the photo frame in batting, just as you did above, and cut out the fabric to fit. You will want to cut excess fabric so that you can pleat it for a fancier look.

Once the fabric is cut out and the batting is glued to the front of the object, start applying the fabric, pleating and hot gluing as you go along. Once the fabric is applied, add glue to the back of the object, on 3 sides only, the bottom, and the right and left side. Do not glue down the top of the object. and apply to the front of the album. Leaving this open will allow the breeder to slide in a photo of their favorite animal.

Now you can apply fabric letters in a complimentary color to spell out the Grand Chapion Saanen, etc Or you can get a small gold or brass plate made up that will have the information on it, along with the show date, show name and judge. This can be purchased from an awards shop for as little as 2-3.00 each.

 

The results? An award that you will get tons of compliments over!
